The highlight of Bethesda’s E3 conference was the expose of Dishonored 2: we got over ten minutes of real-time game footage, the storyline, a new trailer and a release date: November 11 on Playstation 4, XBox One and PC.

Dishonored 1 revolved around the falsely accused Corvo Attano trying to clear his name. Now Corvo is back, 15 years aged, along with his equally fearless daughter Emily Kaldwin — who also happens to be Empress of The Empires of the Isles (Corvo and the previous Empress had a thing). Emily was 10 years old during the events of the original Dishonored. Now she’s 25 and upon Empress Delilah’s untimely death, she’s inherited control. This lasts about five minutes before the villain of the game orders her army to stage a coup. Your goal: save the Empire!

Bethesda pointed out you can play through the game as either Corvo or Emily, but Corvo was largely ignored in their demo session. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree with Emily — she may have been born into her position, but woe to anyone who tries to take it from her! She’s every bit as athletic as he is and she’s got a few superpowers of her own. The most fun one demonstrated was Domino, where if you perform an action against one enemy, every other enemy in the vicinity takes the same blow. It makes you wonder how the bad guys are supposed to stand a chance.

The dev team spent a lot of their playtime stabbing people, but it’s possible to subdue enemies without killing them and you can even avoid them altogether if you’re sneaky. The varied gameplay is what made the first Dishonored so popular, and Bethesda promised their audience they would have even more options to complete the areas in Dishonored 2. Each location will contain multiple routes and some will have unique gameplay gimmicks — in particular, they demonstrated a mansion area where Emily could warp through time to get past obstacles and sneak up on people.

With great new game mechanics and an appealing new protagonist, Dishonored 2 doesn’t look like it could disappoint. As is customary these days, Bethesda will be selling the game in both standard and overstuffed versions: the Collector’s Edition includes a Steelbook case, plus replicas of the Empress’s banner, Corvo’s mask and Emily’s ring.
