Why, the very series this site is based around. The Walking Dead is the #1 highest-rated scripted series in multiple categories in 2015, according to Nielsen ratings figures released today. And to think someone around here with a last name relating to a food product was worried about football (though technically, football still beat it).
Variety reports that The Walking Dead was the No. 1 entertainment series of the year in adults 18-49 and adults 18-34. In terms of total viewers, only the NFL, The Big Bang Theory and NCIS were ahead of it (and two of those shows have demographics too old for advertisers to care). TWD averaged 19.7 million viewers per episode, and by comparison, the #1 top rated newcomer (Fox’s Empire) scored an average of 17.8 million viewers.
It’s also scoring pretty hot in social media: TWD ranks as the #1 scripted series for Twitter exposure for the second straight year (stunts like the one they pulled with Glenn will give them that kind of buzz, but not if they eventually overdo it). In terms of DVR watching, it’s the #1 time-shifted program, gaining an average of 10.89 million viewers in a week’s worth of recorded playback.
To sum things up, The Walking Dead is alive and well. Fear The Walking Dead appeared nowhere on the top charts.
