Big news, racing fans: the next Gran Turismo is officially on the horizon. Sony revealed the next game in the long-running, critically praised Gran Turismo series during their press conference at Paris Games Week this morning.
Called Gran Turismo Sport, or GT Sport for short, the game will be produced in partnership with FiA, the International Automobile Federation, and created by the same developers as before (Polyphony Digital).
Jim Ryan, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, and Kazunori Yamauchi, president of Polyphony Digital, took to the stage to introduce the first trailer:
Among the new features will be two year-long competitions: the Nations Cup, where people compete for their country, and the Manufacturer Fan Cup, which pits car brands against each other. They say the winners of these competitions will “receive their trophies alongside real-life racers,” but it’s unclear if that means in the game, or if there’s a special ceremony planned. GT Sport will also work with the upcoming Playstation VR.
The game is currently being promised for a Fall 2016 release. Beta testing will begin in early 2016.
