Among the many announcements made during the Playstation Experience event today were some new ports of games the console doesn’t have yet — like Parappa the Rapper, the PS1 classic. This musical rhythm game is, in my opinion, the closest Sony has ever come to capturing the same magical quirkiness that powers the Nintendo corporation. If you’ve never played Parappa (shame on you), a free demo is now downloadable at the Playstation Store.

The HD version of Parappa will not only produce crisper visuals but two new features that take advantage of the Dualshock 4 controller: Feel the Beat, which gives the controller a little rumble to help players keep time, and See the Beat, where “the player icon enlarges when a player presses any button during a song to help give visual feedback while they’re playing.” To purists this could be considered cheating, but you don’t have to use either one.

In addition to Parappa two ports from the PSP were announced: LocoRoco (first released in 2006) and Patapon (first released in 2007).

Lara Croft Go, a puzzle game previously exclusive to mobile phones, is also receiving a Playstation 4 version. The existence of this port was leaked earlier this week when the trophy data for it was discovered, but there were some details in this announcement nobody knew: chief among them it has a brand new expansion, “Mirror of Spirits,” exclusive to the PS4 version (for three months).

Parappa, LocoRoco and Parapon do not have release dates as of yet, but Lara Croft Go was released the second it was announced. It costs $9.99 on the Playstation Store. A version for Steam will be out tomorrow.
