Elder Scrolls Online has just introduced its first holiday-themed event: The Witches Festival.

Tamriel’s ancient autumn tradition, The Witches Festival, arrives on the 13th of Frostfall (October 13th), and so begins an annual clash of sorcery and religion. For the remainder of the month, demonologists, conjurors, lamias, warlocks, and thaumaturgists will convene in secret locations throughout the wilds of Tamriel to engage in all manner of incantations, invocations, and conjurations, and the profane creatures they create or summon may plague Tamriel for eons!

So how does one play? First visit the Crown Store to get what you need (an item called the Crow Caller). Using the Crow Caller will initiate the quest “The Witchmother’s Bargain,” which upon completion nets you the Witchmother’s Whistle. Why are you trading a whistle for another whistle, and where is the endgame? Right now….THIS whistle summons a cauldron, and immersing your character (or anyone else in your group) transforms you into an Undead!

Being in this form will let you loot Plunder Skulls, which are full of rare goodies once cracked open. Items include “masks (equipped in your hat slot), special holiday Provisioning recipes, the Hollowjack crafting motif, and more.”

The transformation only lasts a couple of hours, but once it fades away you can simply return to the cauldron and zombify yourself again if you like. On November 1, however, it’ll evaporate along with everything else Halloween-themed. Have a Thriller Night while you can!
