This afternoon during the NYCC Agents of SHIELD panel, the most interesting hint was dropped. Executive producer Jeph Loeb was asked by an audience member if the ABC show would ever mention or reference events happening on its Netflix cousins like Daredevil and Luke Cage. Loeb’s response? “It’s a fair question. And the fair answer is… Stay tuned.”
As you know by now if you’ve been paying attention, the events of major Marvel movies tend to tie into the events in SHIELD, if a bit indirectly (except for the second Captain America flick, which outright shattered the show’s premise). The next tentpole release is this November’s Doctor Strange, and in accordance with supernatural elements being introduced into the MCU, SHIELD is getting its own freaky voodoo to deal with — in the form of Ghost Rider.
Clark Gregg said he was a little apprehensive of bringing Skullhead onto the show at first. “I’ll be honest,” Gregg said, “I saw the movies.” He said at the panel that he preferred that the show be grounded in super-science and not take a grab for the magical. But that lasted a good eight minutes until he was let in on the outline for the season, and then he was sold. Gregg said nothing about what he knows for the near future.
Another cast member who was unsure of Season 4’s new directions was Chloe Bennet, aka Skye, aka Daisy Johnson, aka Quake, aka “Watered-down Wolverine.” So far she’s spent the season as a loner, palling around with GR and trying to look tough (and failing). Bennet didn’t find the isolation fun. “I was in a van. Alone. With a lot of makeup.” However, she sees the isolated development as a challenge for her acting abilities, and she’s taking it head-on.
