Did you notice that Square has now released THREE computer-animated Final Fantasy movies? They started with the box-office dud Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within in 2001, which is pretty much the reason they had to merge with Enix to remain solvent. Square made a safer bet by using FF VII characters in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, released in 2005 and re-released every so often with slightly more footage.
Most recently Square put out Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, a prequel to the upcoming Final Fantasy XV that centered on the battle between kingdoms which sets the stage for the situation you’ll be in when you play the game. This makes three, and three’s a good enough number to repackage them all in one.
Amazon put up a listing today for a Blu-ray set containing all three Square movies in one package. This isn’t something Square has announced themselves, but normally Amazon doesn’t pre-reveal things like this without a reason. “All the Final Fantasy movies, now together in a single collection,” boasts the description. “Experience the adventure, fantasy and action-packed battles surrounding various heroes against evil that are unique to the best-selling Final Fantasy video game franchise.”
Perhaps an announcement for this set is coming at TGS, or a similar event. Whenever Square admits this product is a real tangible thing and provides a release date, we’ll let you know.
