It may have taken a while, but God Eater 2 Rage Burst finally receives a western release. Bandai Namco Games offers players an English version of God Eater 2 Rage Burst this week. The game is now available on multiple platforms. So, players will finally get a crack at eliminating the monsters that are threatening humanity, the Aragami. Here are some important things you need to know ahead of getting the action-RPG, God Eater 2 Rage Burst.
The God Eater franchise is set in a harrowing, post-apocalyptic setting. Humanity has been overcome by violent creatures called Aragami (aka “violent god” in English). Aragami are unique organisms that actually consist of a colony of hundreds of thousands of semi-sentient single-celled organisms called Oracle Cells that group around an Aragami’s Core. The Aragami is the weak point of the giant beasts. Aragami are essentially a super-organism with swarm intelligence, and their existence has threatens humanity on Earth. In God Eater’s world, humanity is almost at the point of extinction.
In God Eater 2 Rage Burst, players take the role of a member of the God Eaters, an elite squad of soldiers for the Fenrir Organization. Their mission is to hunt and defeat Aragami and gather material to study them. God Eater 2 Rage Burst has been released for various platforms this week. It’s available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita and Windows PC. In fact, Steam is offering a deal for gamers who order the game on the service.
At the moment, players who order God Eater 2 Rage Burst will also receive God Eater Resurrection. God Eater Resurrection is an updated version of the original entry in the franchise, God Eater Burst, but now it’s been optimized for other platforms. This game already received a US release earlier this year. So now, players can enjoy the full God Eater storyline.
God Eater Resurrection takes players back to the beginning of the story, when the player character has just joined the God Eater squad. However, there’s also a giant conspiracy that affects the fate of humanity. God Eater 2 Rage Burst is set three years after the events of Resurrection. An enigmatic red rain has started a fatal pandemic called the Black Plague. Members of a special unit called “Blood,” another affiliate of the Fenrir Organization, are sent to investigate the threat.
Players who were able to pre-order the game will be able to treat themselves to some fun bonus costumes from some other popular video game and anime series. These include additional costumes from other franchises such as Tales of Zestiria, Sword Art Online, Tokyo Ghoul, and Assassination Classroom. Gamers can have the characters in the game dressed like Sword Art Online’s Kirito and Asuna, which is pretty cool. The costumes and accessories from Assassination Classroom. Basically, players can wear a big head based on the character of Korosensei from Assassination Classroom, which looks hilarious.
Much like Resurrection, in Rage Burst, it is the player who essentially serves as the protagonist. In Rage Burst, players take the role of a new nameless protagonist character who becomes the “Blood Alpha” or “Vice-Captain” of the Blood Unit in the game. Again like Resurrection, players are able to determine their character’s name, gender, and overall appearance. For the story of Rage Burst, the player character has been newly admitted to the Blood Unit due to a special Blood Arts power.
Bandai Namco Games also shared some helpful ticks for jumping into Rage Burst for new players on the PlayStation Blog. New gamers for the series should focus on completing Rage Burst’s Story Missions until their Blood Arts are unlocked. After unlocking the Blood Arts abilities, players are recommended to level up each ability until they find about two or three that they prefer. Rage Burst Gamers are should consider acquiring at least one ground and one aerial Blood Art technique. A good way to maximize damage against Aragami threats is by mixing up melee and gun God Arc forms and switching between those attacks.
Throughout the game, every type of Aragami can be beaten by using a God Arc type. However, Bandai Namco Games advises that the beast God Eaters switch their loadouts to achieve maximum efficiency for hunting the Aragami. If players focus on heavily armored Aragami types, they should try to repeatedly attack weak points that will break the armor off their armor. Using such attacks as the Buster Blade, Boost Hammer, the gun God Arc with high Crush damage, or the use of Blaze or Freezing bullets can help in quickly stopping an armored Aragami type, such as “Chi-You.”
In Rage Burst, players now have three shield types that can be deployed for blocking attacks: Bucklers; standard Shields; and Tower Shields. These shield types all have various levels of defense coupled with support skills for the player. Meanwhile, players can use Buster Blades to instantly deploy shields and block mid-swing. Per Bandai Namco, this technique is called Advanced Guard, and it’s one that can be paired up with Tower Shields. Tower Shields generally have a slow deployment. But, using the Advanced Guard with the Tower Shields can negate their slow deployment. Rather than blocking, players are recommended to dodge or spring away from danger and only block with a shield for an attack that cannot be avoided as blocking will drain both health and stamina.
Gamers who enjoy the God Eater series who also like anime should then try out the God Eater anime series. The show recently concluded its first season, and it’s available for free streaming at CrunchyRoll.com. The main character in the anime is actually given a name, more of a personality and a backstory, rather than a blank slate like in the original game. The main character is Lenka Utsugi, who is living in the post-apocalyptic Earth of the 2050s. The planet has been overrun by the vicious, blood-thirsty Aragami. Utsugi joins the God Eaters, and he has a special New-Type, second-generation God Arc. With the New-Type God Arc, Lenka has the weaponry that could help tip the scales in the battle against the Aragami.
The anime series is very well done, with some good action. The setting is pretty dark and unsettling at times. However, that adds to the drama of the characters who fight for hope in a world that’s become very bleak and hopeless. It’s definitely a show anime fans are recommended to look into at least once.
