Jack Riley, Actor 1935-2016

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that actor Jack Riley died on Friday due to complications of pneumonia. He was 80.

Riley was known to TV audiences as Elliot Carlin, one of Bob Newhart’s psychology patients on The Bob Newhart Show from 1972-1978. He reprised the characters on ALF and St. Elsewhere. His other TV credits include Diff’rent Strokes, One Day at a Time, Friends, Mike Hammer, and Seinfeld.

Riley’s film career included several Mel Brooks films like Silent Movie, History of the World: Part 1, and Spaceballs. Other film credits include Catch-22, The Long Goodbye, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes!, and Boogie Nights.

Riley was best known as the voice of Stu Pickles, the father of Tommy and Dil Pickles on the hit Nickelodeon cartoon series Rugrats. He also played Stu in three Rugrats movies and the spin-off All Grown Up!. He was also heard, but not seen in a series of Shedd’s Spread Country Crock commercials.

Riley is survived by two children.
