We already knew Crash Bandicoot was coming back in the form of a Skylanders character, but it turns out we’re getting a lot more than that. There’s going to be a fully playable level in the upcoming Skylanders: Imaginators that’s right out of the Playstation classic, with exploding TNT crates, Wumpa fruit, running along a track to escape a boulder, and more.
Not only is Crash returning, but so is his old arch-nemesis Dr. Neo Cortex. Skylanders supervillain Kaos has resorted to cloning himself to take over the island, but didn’t figure his clones would be seeking domination for themselves! To defeat a problem this numerous, the Skylanders are going to need help. That’s where Crash and Cortex come in, and to defeat Kaos they’re going to have to reluctantly team up (again). Also, Crash is voiced by Jess Harnell. Faboo!
Jen Oneal, studio head of Vicarious Visions, says “We approached the level as a way for us to bring the best parts of Skylanders and the best parts of Crash together into one epic adventure. Players are going to enjoy how we’ve honored the heritage of traditional Crash games in the musically-themed, TNT crate-filled level. For fans of Crash this is going to feel like going back to the old world of Crash Bandicoot — but in gorgeous 1080p.”
For those who’ve been waiting for the legitimate return of Crash, one level may not satisfy them for long. But could this be a testing ground for a possible future game? No word from Activision on that, but maybe if fan response is strong enough….
You’ll be able to get Thumpin’ Wanda Islands as part of Skylanders: Imaginators on October 16, or if you prefer, the level itself can be purchased separately for $29.99. Both Kaos and Cortex are getting figure-fied as playable toys, and will be included in the Adventure Pack.
