In some ways there are advantages to living in the UK…for example, if you get horribly sick, you can rely on the NHS (National Health Service) and not go bankrupt because of your illness. On the other hand, if you want to buy Grand Theft Auto V, and you want to use Amazon to do it….you can’t, unless you pay extra.
Amazon UK has begun walling off certain popular items as “Prime Exclusives,” items you can’t buy without an Amazon Prime membership. In recent weeks the list has expanded to video games. Both GTA V and FIFA 16 are now walled off, as well as Dishonored: Definitive Edition, Elder Scrolls Online, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Far Cry Primal, Battlefield Hardline, Minecraft, Shadow of Mordor and Rainbow Six: Siege.
I have no idea how this is even close to a competitive strategy — it’s not like there aren’t a bounty of other ways to get GTA V, including many online game sellers that WON’T say you can’t buy something without a paid membership. Let’s hope the other branches of the Amazon megalopoly don’t get any ideas from this.
