If you’re in a sour mood today, this should cheer you up: Disney has announced a TV series continuation of their animated superhero movie Big Hero 6, and Mark McCorkle and Bob Schooley — creators of Kim Possible — will be running things. Disney announced the series in advance of their television upfront, and Variety broke the news.

In case you missed the original, I’m not going to explain the premise to you because your viewing of the movie is long overdue. Go find it, watch it, and then come back here. The original movie won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature in 2015. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to further develop these characters into a world-class animated series — full of fun, action and the kind of endearing storytelling that only Mark, Bob — and  Baymax — can deliver,” stated Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer at Disney Channels Worldwide.

Anyone who tries to guess which network this series will appear on would be correct with their first assumption of “Disney XD.” Since the production process takes time, we shouldn’t expect it until next year, which is also the same year we’re supposed to get a DuckTales reboot. 2017 should be nice television-wise.

Whether this means plans for a movie sequel have been scrapped we can’t say, because no one really knows outside of the Disney fortress — but it’s not necessarily a sign of that. We’ll tell you more about the Big Hero 6 TV series when we receive information.
